![]() ![]() Never before had such an extensive distribution of late blight-infected plants occurred. Another reason was the distribution of infected transplants through local retail stores from Ohio to Maine. By mid-June, late blight had been confirmed in several states in the Northeast, including Pennsylvania. One is that this was the earliest the disease had been reported over such a broad region of the country (Northeast). ![]() The occurrence of late blight in 2009 was different for several reasons. Each year there are several confirmed outbreaks on potato and/or tomato in commercial fields. Late blight is not uncommon in Pennsylvania. Other losses for potato were due to the US8 genotype that is widespread and commonly seen on potato annually. In 2009, the majority of losses for tomato and some potato losses were due to the relatively new US22 genotype. The genotypes most common in Pennsylvania and the Northeast can cause disease on either potato or tomato or both. Similar to the seasonal flu in humans, different isolates (genotypes) of the late blight pathogen exist and infect different hosts so it is highly unlikely that a given isolate of the pathogen would be capable of infecting and causing disease on all known host plants. The pathogen may infect solanaceous weeds such as bittersweet nightshade, as well as other plants in the same botanical (Solanaceae) family, including petunias, Chinese lantern, and tomatillos. In addition to tomato and potato, the late blight pathogen has also been reported to infect eggplant and pepper, although no cases have been reported recently. Heavy losses can take place in transit symptoms can occur on infected but symptom-less tomato fruit within 5 days of harvest. Late blight epidemics occurred in 1878 in England, destroying entire plantings 1906, 1927, and 1928 in California 1940 in Ontario 19 throughout the eastern half of North America when 80 to 90 percent of early seedbeds in Florida were a complete loss, over 50 percent of the crop was lost in eastern states from New York to Florida, and 25 percent of the crop was lost in midwestern states 1960 in Ontario and 1976 in southern Georgia and some northern states where infected transplants were used. Since that time, epidemics have happened periodically when weather and other conditions favored disease development. It was directly responsible for the Irish Potato Famine of 18. Then, from 1844 to 1847, it occurred in epidemic and catastrophic proportions throughout Europe and North America. It occurred in France in 1840, was destructive in Germany in 1841, and appeared in North America in 1843. Late blight is thought to have originated in Central America and to have appeared almost simultaneously in Europe and North America about 1830. The disease occurs worldwide where tomatoes and potatoes are grown. However, it was 1863 before deBary established beyond doubt that this organism, Phytophthora infestans, was the cause of late blight. The causal pathogen of late blight from potatoes was first described in 1845 by Montagne and from tomato in 1847 by Payen in France.

Additionally, the player who wins the final tricks scores 1 extra point. Each ace, 10, and king a player wins in a trick is worth 1 point. However, if any players play a card in the trump suit, the highest card in that suit wins. The player who played the highest card in the initial suit that was played wins the trick and collects the cards. Play continues around the table until each player has played a card. If they don’t, they can play any card in their hand. Then, the player to their left must play a card in that suit if they have one. After players score their melds, the winner of the bid plays one card from their hand in the middle of the playing area. Two runs are worth 150 points, 8 aces are worth 100 points, 8 Kings are worth 80 points, 8 queens are worth 60 points, 8 jacks are worth 40 points, and 2 Pinochles are worth 30 points. If players have 2 of any meld, the point values for those melds increase. A 9 in the trump suit scores 1 point, an ace in each suit is worth 10 points, a king in each suit is worth 8 points, a queen in each suit is worth 6 points, and a jack in each suit is worth 4 points, and a queen of spades paired with a jack of diamonds is a Pinochle and worth 4 points. A king and queen of the same suit is called a marriage and is worth 2 points, unless the king and queen are in the trump suit, in which case the marriage is worth 4 points. An ace, 10, king, queen, and jack in the trump suit is a run and scores 15 points. Points are scored by forming melds with the cards, and different melds are worth different point values. Now players score the cards in their hands. Then, that player’s teammate passes them three cards from their hand, and they pass three cards back to their teammate. Whoever made the highest bid gets to choose which suit is trump for that round. This continues around the table until every player except for one passes. Then, the player to their left can either bid higher or pass. If they decide to bid, they must bid at least 20 points. Then, the player to the left of the dealer can bid by saying how many points they think they can win based on their hand, or they can pass to the next player. The dealer deals each player 12 cards in sets of 3. ![]() Teammates sit across from one another, and one player deals first, with the deal moving clockwise each round. Alternatively, you can make your own by combining all of the 9s through aces cards from two standard decks of cards. To play Pinochle, you’ll need a special Pinochle card deck. The goal of the game is to be the first team to score 150 points. Pinochle is a fun card game played with two teams of two. In context, Andrew Ervin, author of Bit by Bit: How Video Games Transformed Our Lives, explains it this way: “Imagine trying to create a playable version of Minecraft on a contraption made out of Lincoln Logs, wires, and a few 9-volt batteries hooked up to an Etch A Sketch.” Even though the screen was small – about 5 inches in diameter, “Everybody stood in line to play. “It took me about two hours to rough out the design and a couple of weeks to get it debugged and working,” Higinbotham said. “Players served and volleyed using controllers with buttons and rotating dials to control the angle of an invisible tennis racket’s swing.” Tennis for Two, as it was called it, was played on an oscilloscope and used an electrical charge to show the path of a bouncing ball. Within two days he created what some people believe to be the very first video game. “I look at it and say, well, obviously, with this machine I can fix it so instead of having it pre-programmed, people can control it.” The laboratory had several analog computers and “a book which tells you how to do a bouncing ball and some other things,” Higinbotham explained. ![]() ![]() So Higinbotham looked around for inspiration. Any configuration settings of the virtual machines is controlled by the virtualization software and not GNS3. All questions about when nested virtualization support for Intel CPUs will be added, must be directed to the Virtualbox forums, not the GNS3 user forums.īe aware that GNS3 only integrates with VMware and VirtualBox and does not have control of the configuration of your virtual machines (VMs). Virtualbox had nested virtualization support added in version 6.0, but as of 6.0.12, that support is for AMD CPUs only. VMware workstation is recommended when nesting of operating systems is required due to better VTx support for both AMD and Intel CPUs. VMware / VirtualBox #īoth VMware and VirtualBox provide an easy way to virtualize devices and can be added to your GNS3 topologies. If you want a stable platform and officially released Cisco images which are constantly updated, GNS3 recommends the use of Qemu and Cisco VIRL images. The software is not officially released by Cisco, and those images can often be buggy. GNS3 RECOMMENDATIONS GNS3 does not recommend the use of IOU. You will also not get support from Cisco TAC. IOU is a Cisco internal tool that has not been publicly released, and a Cisco employee will need to give you both the software and a license. If you are not using Linux it is recommended that you run VIRL appliances directly in the GNS3 VM which leverages Qemu. An ASAv for example can be run natively in VMware or in Qemu. The topologies are portable and lighter than using native VirtualBox and VMware virtual machines. GNS3 RECOMMENDATION: Qemu is the best choice for creating and using Cisco GNS3 topologies. VIRL images are created specifically for simulation and work well especially if you want newer versions of the Cisco operating system and modern features. This will allow you to access images that work with GNS3 and approved by Cisco team. It emulates older Cisco hardware such as 3725 routers and uses actual Cisco IOS images. ![]() Cisco # Dynamips #ĭynamips is the technology leveraged by GNS3 since inception and emulates Cisco routers and basic switching using the Etherswitch module. As soon as you are comfortable with GNS3, it is recommended that you move to a GNS3 VM setup to make the most of GNS3 options and optimization. This is simpler in some ways to set up, but does have limitations and should be seen as the starting point in your GNS3 journey. This means that you only install the GNS3 GUI (all-in-one). However, if you only want to create basic GNS3 topologies using Cisco IOS routers, a local (Dynamips) install will suffice. This includes the lack of proper Qemu support when running VIRL natively on Windows (not recommended), as well as a method to easily add docker containers to your projects. The GNS3 development team have worked hard to create a lightweight, robust way of creating GNS3 topologies that avoids multiple common issues experienced when using a local install of GNS3. The GNS3 VM is recommended for most situations when you are using Windows or Mac OS. This document will help you decide which emulator or simulator you should use in your GNS3 topologies.
